    FAQ

    Questions about naturalization

Can’t find your question? Message us on WhatsApp.

    How long does naturalization take?

The law sets 180 days for the review, but in practice the time depends on the authorities’ workload. If 180 days pass, a lawsuit can be filed to require a decision.

    How much does it cost?

There is no government fee for the application. The costs are the required certificates and translations, plus our legal fees, which are set out in a tailored proposal after we review your case.

I don’t live near Curitiba. Can you help me?

Yes. We work with clients in any city in Brazil, 100% online: video meetings, documents sent from your phone and updates on WhatsApp.

How do I prove I speak Portuguese?

With the Celpe-Bras exam or other accepted proof, such as a high school, bachelor’s or graduate diploma earned in Brazil, or a Portuguese course from a university recognized by the Ministry of Education.

Do I need to be in Brazil during the process?

Yes, at least for the first stage, because you must attend the Federal Police in person for biometrics and document checks. There is also a limit on time spent abroad during the required residence period, which we check in the first review.

My application was denied. What now?

You can file an administrative appeal within 10 days. If the appeal is also denied, the decision can be challenged in court. We review the reason for denial and what can be added.

    Can refugees apply?

Yes. People with refugee status recognized by Conare can apply and are exempt from presenting a passport and a criminal record certificate from their home country.

Will I lose my original nationality?

Brazil does not require you to renounce it. Whether you keep it depends on your home country’s law, and we check this with you.
